LEGO SHELL STATION - START

I started on this project with 4 large light gray plates, figuring that should be enough room. Now I am not so sure, but I think I can still work within those bounds. My first part of the station was the car wash, as I figured it would be a relatively easy structure to build. Heh heh.

My first thought was to get the garage doors up for it, then build around those. That was easy enough, but I had to raise the garage doors several times in order to get the distance I needed. for the cars and various equipment for the car wash, such as water feeders, foam, and wax sprayers.

After I have finished the garage doors and how high they would be, I started on the main level of construction, the building around it. I had a hard time determining how many windows I would put in, and finally decided to make it almost all one wall, and not have any for the other wall. That might change, however. I also toyed with door placements and lighting placements, but I think it is sufficient for now.

Finally, I had the walls and the garage doors in place, now I need to work on the trim and roof To my delight, the 8x16 bricks I had from a DACTA purchase worked fine, and made the top of the car wash rails / garage door parts the base for the roof to sit on using tiles and grilles.

The next step is the roof, and some final touches.

Here are some pictures: (Single click on the thumbnail picture to get a larger picture in a new window )

Here is an overview shot of the first day of building, as you can see the trim is there, along with the walls, and the black windows. The other side will be facing something, so I do not know what I will do with that as of yet. As you can tell, my construction technique has a lot of debris afterwards, which I will get to shortly.
As you can see here, there are the garage door rails, and the tile and grilles that support the roof. I had problems getting the brushes to fit, but I think I finally figured it out after an hour of toying with them. Most LEGO vehicles should be able to go through this. I will wait for the other grilles and the light gray tile (The track for the cars and the water drains) until I have the car wash located in it's final position.
Here is a front view of the car wash, complete with the red and yellow garage door. I decided for the red door for the maintenance people instead of yellow, both looked decent enough. I added some curved parts for the lighting, I might add more as time permits.
Finally, here is the top of the roof detail picture. As you can see, I have 4 of the 8x16 bricks for the top. these are very stable, and do well to fit in with the color scheme of the facility. The 1x6 white bricks are just for placement holders until I finish constructing the roof. The 2x yellow bricks are the trim, I will have those 2 bricks high. I also will have a 1 plate thick red border as well.
