CUSTOM LEGO SHELL GAS STATION

BACKGROUND:

This is my first real creation in a few years, I have had time in my life finally to build again after the multiple jobs era. I was first inspired to build this when I was lucky enough to receive a complete series of the 125x Shell Station, which was only available at the time in European Gas Stations.

After building them, I concluded that although they were good sets, they seemed a little small, and not reflective of the larger American Gas Stations, so I decided to build one that looked like some here in the U.S.

My thinking was to have around at least 4 to 6 pumps, a large canopy, a carwash, and a large convenience store as well. I wanted to put little things, like payphones, restrooms, vacuums, and that kind of thing in as well, to get that real look. I also decided after the bulk packs came into existence, and especially the 2x2 tiles, to "pave" my gas station with them, and put some more details on the ground, namely the gas insertion hook ups.

I had two stations scoped out for this building assignment, the first being superceded by the second, but I decided to put it up anyway.

UPDATES:

• 08/30/2002 - I finally got finished with the Original Shell Station pictures. I am wrapping up Events - GATS Novi 2002, and then I am pretty much wrapped up with this page outside of the interior of the shop I need to cpmplete and photograph.
• 08/22/2002 - I am getting the last event wrapped up for this part, GATS in Novi, Michigan in January 2002. This should be done soon. You can see a few things up there now. 
• 08/20/2002 - I think I wrapped up the GATS GR 2001 page, and I think I got the Real Stations pages updated and fixed finally. Go take a look on the left. I am starting on the Fundraiser pictures now, hopefully it will be done soon. 
• 08/15/2002 - I am continuing to work on the Events page, the GATS Grand Rapids 2001 show. Look at the link to see more pictures, etc. I think the other earlier pages are all done finally. : ) I also started on the real stations page, that should be wrapped up soon as well. 
• 08/14/2002 - I am fixing a few the minor problems on the original pages, and I am adding content to the Events page on the left. I am trying to get the Shell Station wrapped up, so I can move to other areas. : ) 
• 06/17/2002 - I finished the 07/04 update, finally getting the pictures online and the like. I will start getting pictures together of the shows soon. I have the interior done, which I will document soon. I will have a final shot layout one of thhese days. : )  
• 05/30/2002 - I had a bunch of pages updated, but my CD-RW Disk decided to dismount itself, and killed all the updates, so I am revising my updating process, so it doesn't happen again. 
• 05/15/2002 - Working on the later updates, I need to upload some thumbnails for 6/14, but I am about halfway on the 07/04/2001 page. I will also start adding various pics from shows, so stay tuned!

• 04/23/2002 - Added a Shell Station Homepage link to the left here, continuing to update links to Brickshelf.

• 04/11/2002 - Sorry for the lack of updates, the last few months have been busy. I will be moving some of the pics to Brickshelf ( http://www.brickshelf.com ) and getting the page done finally, with some of the shows and other interesting tidbits. Stay tuned!
