"Big Red" Train Station Start - 10/06/01

This is the start of my Train Station, my first project when I moved into my new house in September of 2001. Tony Hedglen, my friend and fellow MichLUG / MichLTC ( http://www.michlug.org ) member, came down for a weekend to help me start it.

Here is the entrance to the LSF (LEGO Storage Facility) or the basement. My wife was nice enough to let me put up the LEGO sign from the Shell Station. : )
In the above picture, one of MichLUG's members, Spencer R, mentioned how much it looked like the entrance to the Notre Dame Football Stadium for the football players, and he gave me a link. Boy, it sure does! Thanks Spencer! Pretty fitting since I live about 20 minutes from there anyway!
Here is a shot of the table, where I was working on the closer side, Tony the other, we started by having a wall in-between the track area. This was latter scrapped for a different configuration. You can see all the construction debris also. The yellow bricks in here indicate windows, where we either did not have them yet and are using them as temporary bricks.
Here is the side of the train track side. You can see the entrances for the various support vehicles, as well as the walkway and the yellow bricks for temporary windows. You can also see the front of the station, were we were trying to figure out the monorail and the ticket counter.
Here is a good shot of the interior part, you can see where the train track is, and the arches we were thinking about having in there. We later eliminated these, and moved the staircases next to the windows, I think that was in version 2.
Here is a shot of the back, you can see the windows and the gray border around them.
Here is the ticket booth. We were still playing around with the doors, and getting the last windows in place. This front end got redesigned just about every version. At first, I was just going to have the entrance with the stairs, and no canopy. This was changed after the Fundraiser.
This picture generated a lot of questions and e-mail. The only reason I had multiple colors here was I did not have enough windows and gray bricks to complete the design, so I put in filler so I can see what I was doing.

A tall thank you goes out to Todd Lehman for this background, you can find it at:
